Maye Ellen Babbitt, the daughter of Chester and Mary (Lane) Stormer, was born on September 17, 1923, the oldest of five children and died October 8, 2022 at the Elm Crest Senior Living Community in Harlan, Iowa at the age of 99 years and 21 days.

Maye was baptized on November 10, 1936 in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended Atlantic Community School and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1942.

During Junior High and High School she enjoyed babysitting, working at an ice cream shop and at the Atlantic Hospital where she volunteered as a candy striper. After High School, she was employed by Dr. Petersen, an optometrist.

On December 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ora (Bill) Babbitt in a double-wedding ceremony with Clyde and Jean Corey in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Bill and Maye began farming with Bill’s parents Glenn and Hazel Babbitt. They later purchased their first farm and resided there for 71 years.

Some of Maye’s interests included farm bookkeeping, children’s school functions, square dancing, ballroom dancing and international travel.

Preceding her in death were her husband, all of her immediate family, and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her three children Connie Robinson of Harlan, Iowa; Patricia (Rod) Blount of Merriam, Kansas; Garvin (Judy) Babbitt of Edna, Texas; grandchildren Shane Robinson (Roxanne Darling) of New Mexico; Brad Robinson of Kansas; Kristi Robinson of Colorado; Shauna Robinson of Colorado; Danielle (Casey) Good of Kansas; DeAun (Keith) Gehring of Colorado; Brandon (Melissa) Blount of Kansas; Bert (Cindy) Brocker-Babbitt of Texas; Rhonda Mayfield-Babbitt of Texas; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Dell Babbitt of Colorado; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
