Meighan Elizabeth (McCarthy) Johansen was born on May 31, 1983 in Omaha, Nebraska to Jerry and Deborah (Walsh) McCarthy. She was active in speech, drama, cheerleading, and competitive gymnastics during school. She graduated from AHST Community School with the Class of 2001. She graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska in 2006 with a degree in Special Education Teaching. Most recently, she received her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska.
Meighan and Jerrid Johansen were married on July 9, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Omaha, Nebraska with her son, Brayden. Meighan worked for the Papillion-La Vista School District as a Special Education Teacher and held several positions from 2007 until 2012. Most recently, she worked for AHST Community School in Avoca.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, dancing, and singing (even if she wasn�t great at it). She loved shopping, Pinterest, decorating her home, and following the teams coached by her husband and brother. She especially loved spending time with her son, husband, family and friends.
Meighan died peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparent, Daniel McCarthy; maternal grandparent, Peggy Walsh; and mother-in-law, Marcia Johansen.
She is survived by her husband, Jerrid Johansen and son, Brayden Neill, both of Omaha, Nebraska; her parents, Jerry and Deborah McCarthy of Avoca, Iowa; a brother, Evan McCarthy and his wife Linsey of Avoca; a sister, Caitlin McCarthy of Omaha; paternal grandparent, Marie McCarthy of Omaha and maternal grandparents, William and Judy Walsh of Buffalo, New York; father-in-law, Russ Johansen of Dannebrog, Nebraska; sisters-in law, Jaci and her husband Chris Nichols of Grand Island, Nebraska, Jill Hurt of Kearney, Nebraska, Jessica and her husband Joel Zuniga of Dallas, Texas, and Jina Johansen of Dallas, Texas; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rev. Thomas Dooley celebrated the 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at the AHST High School Gymnasium in Avoca, Iowa. Rev. John Frost was the ConCelebrant, Sondra Dea accompanied the St. Mary�s Catholic Church Choir, and vocalist Brad Lampe. Inurnment was held in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca with Rusty Andersen, Craig Benson, Heath Lamp, Mitch Leth, Brent VanHorne, and Jeff VanRoy serving as pallbearers.
