Melba M. Jensen

Melba Marie Kriz Jensen was born on October 8, 1927, to Vincent and Cyprianna (Janecek) Kriz in Dodge, Nebraska. She graduated from Dodge High School with the Class of 1945. She worked at Mutual of Omaha after high school.
On December 31, 1945, she was united in marriage to Frode M. Jensen of Shelby, Iowa, in Hiawatha, Kansas. Two children were born to this union: Linda and Dennis.
Melba was a devoted farm wife helping outside when she was needed. She was a good mother; always active with her two children. Melba loved cooking and sewing for her family. She raised chickens and was referred to as the egg lady for many years marketing "Melba Jensen's Fresh Eggs". Melba had a green thumb and liked gardening and flowers. She was proud of her collection of African Violets.
Melba was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship serving on committees. She was a member of the Minden Community Club and was a willing volunteer.
Melba died on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-two years, nine months, and thirty days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of sixty-two years, Frode.
Melba is survived by her son Dennis Jensen and Christine Kading of Cambridge, Iowa; daughter Linda and her husband Robert Andersen of Avoca, Iowa; grandson Wade Andersen and his wife Amy of Minden, Iowa; granddaughter Bobbi and her husband Mike Lund of Harlan, Iowa; great-grandsons: Brayden, Morgan, Henry, Brooks, and Andrew; sister Luella Zvacek of North Bend, Nebraska; brother-in-law and sister in-law Clarence and Louise Jensen of Algona, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Pastor Brian Wohlhuter conducted the 11:00 AM funeral service on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Minden United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Wade Andersen, Richard Jensen, Rodney Ruzicka, Mike Lund, Tom Jensen, and Bruce Jensen. Interment was held at the Minden Cemetery in Minden, Iowa.
