Melvin Bruck, son of Tony & Marie (Mary Bissen) Bruck, was born on February 11,1945 in Earling, Iowa. He was one of 10 children with 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Melvin was baptized, had first communion, and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, where he remained a lifelong member. He attended school at St Joseph's in Earling and graduated in 1963.
After high school he joined the National Guard. Upon his return from the military, he began farming north of Earling. Melvin found the love of his life when he met Marilea Dresen. On December 27, 1969, they were united in marriage. To this union 5 children were born, Michele, Matt, Robert, Steven & Ann.
Melvin continued to farm the rest of his life raising corn, soybeans and cattle. Melvin enjoyed several hobbies. He was an avid watcher of sports including basketball and football both on TV and attending the many games his grandkids played in. Gardening was a huge pastime in the summer months and Melvin was very proud of their garden and enjoyed sharing its produce with all their kids and neighbors. He also enjoyed card playing with friends and family. His children and grandchildren were everything to him. He was so proud of every accomplishment and special talent they possessed, no matter how big or small. He spent a tremendous amount of time with his grandkids holding the little ones on his lap so they could explore all his pockets, giving them rides on the ranger, and letting them dig in the dirt to help in his garden. He enjoyed visiting with the older kids about what was going on in their lives with jobs, sporting events, school and even relationships. Melvin loved hearing everything. Melvin was a man of faith and attended church weekly and made an effort to keep in touch with his siblings and visiting with his many friends.
