Michael Marvin Holloway, son of Thomas and Helen (Gaer) Holloway, was born on October 16, 1949 at Foderberg Home in Manilla, Iowa. Mike grew up on a farm north of Irwin and attended Irwin-Kirkman Community School, graduating with the class of 1968.
After high school Mike started working at Irwin Farm Supply. He was drafted into the United States Army in July of 1969 and was stationed in Korea as a Military Police Officer. It was here that he met his loyal companion, Tiger, who made a huge impact on his life. He carries a picture of him and his dog in his wallet to this day. He attained the rank of Specialist (E4) before his honorable discharge in March, 1971.
In 1974 Mike was united in marriage and from this union two children were born, Travis and Heather. Mike continued to work for FSC until retirement. After retirement Mike started working for Lamont, hauling grain until his death. Mike was a big asset to the Irwin Community, serving as a volunteer firefighter, EMS and working for the city. Mike would be seen leaving at 4 am to go fishing at Storm Lake, looking for coyote and deer tracks. He was everything hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was the leader of the pack to teach anything or everything about his love of the outdoors to his grandkids. Mike took great pride in his garden, where he shared with anyone and everyone.
Family was everything to Mike, he was the best dad, uncle, brother, grandpa and great grandpa. His children and grandchildren were his world. Mike would always be seen with a grandchild whether it be taking the boat out, picking them up from school, going fishing, scouting for deer or sitting by the bonfire and making s’mores. Christmas and Easter were his favorite holidays, where he loved to spoil all his grandkids. Mike had a big heart and never met a stranger. He was an icon to everyone.
Mike died unexpectedly at Jennie Edmudson hospital in Council Bluffs, IA on June 27, 2022 @ 2:45 PM surrounded by family at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 11 days.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
