Michael E. Mcmurphy
August 13, 1955 — September 23, 2009
Michael Eugene McMurphy, son of Charlie Eugene and Mary Ann (Schmitt) McMurphy, was born on August 13, 1955 in Atlantic, Iowa. He was baptized at the Shelby Presbyterian Church in Shelby, Iowa. Michael started school in Griswold, Iowa, and later in Avoca, Iowa, where he graduated from Avo-Ha High School with the class of 1973.
After high school, Michael attended Gateway Electronics computer training while working for the Lozier�s Corporation in Omaha, Nebraska. In November of 1975, Michael was united in marriage to Beverly Bauer in Omaha, Nebraska. Together they were the parents of four daughters: Melissa, Mickie, Mindy and Megan. Michael then joined the United States Marines Corps and served his country for eight years. After his discharge, Michael enrolled at Iowa Western Community College where he received his degree in computer programming and accounting. He worked for West Corp. out of Omaha, Nebraska where he was employed for over eighteen years.
Michael enjoyed games of strategy and conquest. He spent countless hours devising his own game maps for Dungeons and Dragons as well as military based games. He was very intellectual and enjoyed time relaxing and reading. Due to illness, Michael retired and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in July of 2009 to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. It was here that he died while at the Truman Medical Center having attained the age of fifty-four years, one month and seven days. He was preceded in death by his father.
Michael is survived by his daughters: Melissa McMurphy of Omaha, Nebraska, Mickie and her husband Josiah Blank of Kansas City, Missouri, Mindy and her husband Steve Rote of Liberty, Missouri and Megan McMurphy and her fianc� Ryan Thomas of St. Joseph, Missouri; their mother, Beverly Harlan of Kansas City; his grandchildren: Andrew, Ethan, Bradley, Shaela and Kyle; his mother, Mary Ann McMurphy of Atlantic, Iowa; his brothers: Rick McMurphy and his wife Jerri of Avoca, Iowa, Mark McMurphy and his wife Rona of Grimes, Iowa, Rod McMurphy and his wife Terri of Harlan, Iowa and Rodger McMurphy and his wife Rosana of Walnut, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The 11:00 AM funeral service was conducted by Dale Kesterson at Pauley Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Michael�s brothers Rick, Mark, Rod, and Rodger were honorary casket bearers. A private burial was held at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
