Mike James Mikels, son of Michael and Sanda (Beauchamp) Mikels was born on December 17, 1965 in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. He attended Harlan Community High School, graduating with the class of 1984. After high school, Mike joined the United States Army, he served his country honorably until April 1986.
When Mike returned home, he started working at Farmland. He drove truck for Panama Transfer and spent some time working in the Monument Shop, with setting stones and digging graves. He worked at CSR in Harlan for several years selling insurance policies. Mike helped Shelby County Outreach make deliveries to those in need and for many years worked at Pizza Hut making deliveries. In 2013, Mike started as a CNC Operator at Jacobs Corp in Harlan. He also worked trimming the lawn at the Harlan Cemetery and as a maintenance man at Baymont Inn and Suites.
On February 5, 2003, Mike was united in marriage to Tracie Obrecht in Harlan. They had three children: Skylar, Anastasia, and Tanisha. In his free time, he loved visiting with friends and family, or being on the phone talking. He also enjoyed playing video games and working on electronics. He will also always be remembered for being an amazing grandfather to Payton.
Mike died on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, attaining the age of fifty-six years, seven months, and twenty-six days. He was preceded in death by his dad Michael Mikels.
He is survived by his wife Tracie Mikels of Harlan, Iowa; children Skylar Mikels, Anastasia Mikels (Nick Hyde), Tanisha Mikels (Tyler Powers), granddaughter Payton Sue Kobold, his mother Sanda (Gust) Sindt of Harlan, Iowa; brothers Rod (Patrece) Mikels, Tim Mikels, and bonus sister Brigette Riche, stepmother Peg Mikels of Audubon, Iowa; uncles and aunts; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
