Mildred A. Finken
March 12, 1930 — December 26, 2017
Mildred Ann (Dresen) Finken, daughter of Christopher and Irene (Miller) Dresen, was born on March 12, 1930 in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized, made 1st communion and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. She attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated with the class of 1948.
On October 15, 1951, Mildred was united in marriage to Ivo Finken at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. To this union four children were born: Donna, Dean, Darlene, and Doug.
Mick was a housewife and also worked various jobs throughout the years at various places. She was a bookkeeper at Joe Wilwerding Garage from 1948 to 1964, she worked at CDS in Harlan from 1983 to 1995, she also worked at Finken’s Grocery Store for several years and cleaned the bank from 2005 to 2014. She was very active in her community, church and her children’s activities. She was den mother for cub scouts, and a room mother in school for many years. She served on St. Joseph’s School Board for 3 years. In 1976, she was secretary for the Alter Society, that she had been a member to for many years.
Mick died on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-seven years, nine months and fourteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Rita, brothers Marcus and Larry, son-in-law Philip Stephens.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of 66 years Ivo Finken of Earling, Iowa, children Donna Stephens of Denison, Iowa; Dean Finken and his wife Sandy of Earling; Darlene and her husband Don Mages of Panama, Iowa; Doug Finken of Altoona, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Lois Dresen of Earling; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
