Mildred Rosalie Gaul was born on February 1, 1924 in Earling, Iowa, to Anton and Veronica (Kloewer) Rau. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling and graduated from St. Joseph�s Catholic School with the Class of 1941.
She furthered her education at St. Joseph�s Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse in 1945. She then worked at St. Joseph�s Hospital in Omaha and Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.
On October 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Roman A. Gaul at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling. Eleven children were born to this union: Carla, Mike, Gerarda, Mark, Don, Joe, Ann, Mary, Gina, Karen, and Michele.
Mildred�s hobbies were quilting and sewing - she made twelve wedding gowns. She enjoyed playing bingo, visiting with family and friends, and doing volunteer work. She served on the Parish Council, the School Board, taught CCD and was a firm believer of the Golden Rule and thinking of the other person first.
Mildred went on vacation to Nevada and it was there that she died unexpectedly on Monday, January 24, 2011, having attained the age of eighty-six years, eleven months, and twenty-three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roman, daughter Gerarda, brothers Joe and Goar, sister Therese and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Carla Gaul of Omaha, Nebraska, Mike Gaul of Earling, Iowa, Mark Gaul and his wife Patti of League City, Texas, Don Gaul and his wife Mary of Earling, Joe Gaul and his wife Mallory of Earlham, Iowa, Ann Gaul of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary and her husband Chris Tepe of Harlan, Iowa, Gina Gaul of Lincoln, Nebraska, Karen Gaul of Des Moines, Iowa, and Michele Gaul and her fianc� Kurt Wetzstein of Omaha; nine grandchildren; brothers Harold Rau of Harlan and Howard Rau and his wife Dorothea of St. Louis, Missouri; sister Mary Carroll of Earling; other family members and friends.
Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 2:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Honorary casket bearer was Bob Carroll. Serving as casket bearers were Mike Gaul, Mark Gaul, Chris Tepe, Joe Gaul, Kurt Wetzstein, and Don Gaul. Interment was held at St. Joseph�s Cemetery in Earling.
