Mildred Mary Reinig began her journey of life on February 11, 1924. She died at home on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the age of 94 years. She was the daughter of Albert and Helen Leinen of Portsmouth, Iowa.
Growing up on the farm, she was always her dad’s helper with chores and livestock. She came from a musical family. Mildred sang in a band, at many church services, and on other occasions. Her beautiful soprano voice was inspirational.
Mildred married Anthony “Tony” Reinig on May 5, 1943. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last year. God blessed her with 11 children, four whom died at infancy. Mildred was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Portsmouth for many years.
Being a skilled seamstress, Mildred made all 6 of her daughter’s wedding dresses. After many years on the farm, she and Tony retired and moved to Harlan in 1985. They became members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
She was steadfast in her belief in our Lord, she was a magnificent example of love and sacrifice to her children. Her kindness and love for Tony and her children was evident in all she did.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen, her two sisters, Helen and Dolores, her infant children: twins Peter and Paul, and Bonnie and Anthony.
She leaves behind her beloved Tony, her children, Dolores (Bob) Gaeta, Rose Ann (John) Cannella, Mary (Doug) Baker, Judy (Leo) Hensley, Susan (Chuck) Field, Joan (Tom) Ouren, and Allan (Jackie) Reinig, 21 grandchildren and 37 great children.
Mildred’s spirit will live on in all of those who loved her.
