Nancy Deruby
December 20, 1958 — March 10, 2023
Nancy Sue DeRuby, daughter of Nicholas and Marcella (Pauley) Schmitz was born on December 20, 1958 in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. She attended grade school in Westphalia and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1977. She received her associates degree in Arts and Science from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On May 29, 1993, Nancy was united in marriage to Thomas DeRuby at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. Nancy worked at IWCC for 35 years as a training assistant. She enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing. She loved the cats she had throughout her life. Most of all, Nancy loved spending time with her family and friends.
Nancy passed away peacefully at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of sixty-four years, two months, and eighteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Thomas Daniel, mother-in-law Audrey DeRuby, brothers Cletus and Russell, brother-in-law James Bender.
She is survived by her husband Tom DeRuby of Bellevue, NE; siblings Valarian "Larry" (Vick) Schmitz of Harlan, IA; Janice (late Cletus) Schmitz of Harlan, IA; Norman (Gloria) Schmitz of Harlan, IA; Roger (Judy) Schmitz of Westphalia, IA; Renee Davis (late Russ Schmitz) of Glenwood, IA, Marvin (Joan) Schmitz of Harlan, IA; Linda (late James) Bender of Lambertsville, MI; Velma (Bruce) Arkfeld of Defiance, IA; Jim (Vicki) Schmitz of Bennington, NE; Doris (Lenny) Schmitz of Harlan, IA; sisters-in-law, Helen (Eric) Mellen of Tucson, AZ, Sharon DeRuby of Rome, NY; Christine (Bobby) DeRuby of Rome, NY; brother-in-law, Billy DeRuby of Rome, NY; many other relatives and friends.
