Nancy Alfers-Madsen, daughter of Bernard and Louise (Kautzky) Alfers, was born December 13, 1958 in Perry, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry, Iowa and was confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Neola, Iowa. She attended grade school in Minden, Iowa and graduated from Tri-Center High School, with the class of 1977.
Nancy’s mother died at a young age, so Nancy picked up the role of helping with her younger siblings. Nancy was employed through the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa for the last twenty-four years.
Nancy had a great sense of humor and love for animals, especially her fur baby, Koda. She collected Breyer horses and enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby and Bullriding. Nancy was a fan of the Washington Redskins, but most of all, she loved her family, was a beautiful sister, a wonderful mother, and an awesome grandma.
Nancy died traveling to Avoca on Thursday, September 7, 2017, blessing everyone who knew her throughout her fifty-eight years, eight months and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her mother, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Nancy has left to cherish her memory, her children Pam Madsen and her significant other Chad Watson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Chris Madsen and his significant other Brenda Larimore of Avoca, Iowa; grandchildren Adam Madsen, Jared “JJ” Madsen, Makenna Duncan, Cohen Watson, Rory Watson, Tori Phippen, Jared Phippen, Carter Phippen and Ricky Pankonen; her father Bernard Alfers and step-mother Karen Borrink of Council Bluffs, Iowa; siblings Joe Alfers and his wife April of Kansas City, Missouri; Jane and her husband Don Barnes of Shelby, Iowa; Karen Alfers and her significant other Robert Conklin of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Kay Waltz and her significant other Tony Schaeffer of Minden, Iowa; Gina and her husband Mike Hackett of Winterset, Iowa; step-sister Debbie and her husband Robert Pogge of Minden, Iowa; step-brother Dave Borrink of Sioux City, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; other family members and many friends.
