Nancy Jane Pauley, daughter of Clarence B. and Evalin F. (Millette) Kleinjan, was born May 21, 1937 in Hastings, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. She attended St. Cecilia's Catholic School, where she graduated with the class of 1955. After graduation, Nancy was trained to work as a surgical technician at St. Catherine's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She met her future husband, Lloyd while living in Omaha during December 1959.
On October 1, 1960, Nancy was united in marriage to Lloyd Pauley at St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They honeymooned in the Black Hills of South Dakota and then they made their home in Portsmouth, Iowa. Later, they moved to the family farm outside of Portsmouth, where they raised their four children: Debra, Deanne, Christine, and Allan. The farming operation included corn, beans, oats, alfalfa, a cow/calf herd and hogs for several years. Nancy loved the baby kitties, calves, and grew to love all of God's creatures on the farm. She raised a garden in the early years, yet later, did a lot of "bean walking" with the kids!
Nancy worked at Mickel's Restaurant for several years as a waitress in the late 1970's. Then in the fall of 1980, Nancy attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs to take classes to become a medical receptionist. After receiving her certificate, she worked as a medical intake receptionist for Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa for several years. Nancy later worked part-time overnights at REM-Leadway in Shelby, Iowa.
Later, she was able to retire into being a full-time grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren (Amanda, Geoff, Angela, Brianna, April, Joe, Julie, Emily, Patrick, Robert, Lydia, Natalie, and Libby). Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy loved being creative and artistic with the grandchildren and could always be counted on to have something "sweet" in the house for all visitors such as Debbie Cakes and cookies. Nancy was also a minister of the Eucharist and a choir member for St. Mary's, Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth for many years. She enjoyed the music and was devoted to the Church.
Nancy passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty years, ten months and fourteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Fred Kleinjan, Mary Tarkington, Tim Kleinjan, and Robert Kleinjan.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of 57 years Lloyd Pauley of Portsmouth, Iowa; children Debra and her husband George Martens of Shelby, Iowa; Deanne and her husband Edward Idar III of Durango, Colorado; Christine M. Pauley of New London, Minnesota; Allan Pauley and his wife Christine of Des Moines, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; siblings Evalin (Connie Mae) Doucet of Denham Springs, Louisiana; Richard Kleinjan of San Antonio, Texas; Monica Lowery and her significant other John Pierce of Redondo Beach, California; Delphine and her husband Ed Briseno of Grand Island, Nebraska; Michael Kleinjan of San Antonio, Texas; Theresa and her husband Bill Loutzenheiser of Hastings, Nebraska; sisters-in-law Sandy Kleinjan of Hastings, Nebraska; Deena Kleinjan of San Antonio, Texas; other family member and many friends.
