Neva J. Manz
July 6, 1930 — December 17, 2014
Neva Jean was born on July 6, 1930 to Glenn and Hazel (Franklin Hardenbergh) Babbitt at home in Cass County, Iowa. Neva came from a large family, she was one of 11 children. She went to Cass County and Shelby County Country Schools. While in high school she played basketball. She graduated in 1948 from Shelby High School, Shelby Iowa.
Neva married Lee Manz on January 22, 1950 at the Shelby Methodist Church in Shelby Iowa. They were blessed with 6 children. Dennis (died in infancy), Ronda, Larry, Coleen, Karen, and Sherry.
Neva and Lee moved to Avoca in 1993 and retired from farming in 1998.
Neva enjoyed all sports and enthusiastically attended her grandchildren’s activities. She was a person of many talents, China painting being one of her best. She painted tea sets, plates and Christmas ornaments. She was a member of the Corner Attic, Shelby Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn & Hazel Babbitt; Son Dennis; siblings: Hubert; Darlene; Doris; Clara; Bud; Velma; and Dean.
She is survived by her husband Lee Manz of Avoca Iowa; Son Larry (Deb) Manz of Avoca Iowa; Daughters Ronda (Craig) Davis of Shelby Iowa; Coleen (Chuck) Schumacher of Shelby Iowa; Karen (Delbert) Turner of Johnston, Iowa: Sherry(Trevor) Pfaff of Raytown, Missouri; Sister Hyla Nash of Atlantic, Iowa ; brothers: Bill (Maye) Babbitt of Avoca , Iowa and Dell (Sharon) Babbitt of Estes Park, Colorado, 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and two on the way!
