Nick was born to Sam Nicotero Jr. and Dorothy (Halterman) Nicotero on May 10, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was baptized at the St. Therese of the Infant Parish in New Mexico. During his youth, he was very athletic and participated in sports, including high school football. He was known by many as the class clown and the life of the party. On December 28, 1967, at the tender age of 17, Nick joined the United States Marine Corps. He served his country for 4 years, during which he was stationed in Vietnam from 1969-1970. As he loved to reminisce, he flew to Vietnam on his 19th birthday and was able to celebrate the occasion twice when he crossed the international Date Line. During his service, he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was decorated with many medals including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a proud Marine and served his country with utmost dedication and integrity. Upon his honorable military discharge, he spent many years working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He then spent most of his civilian career working at the Metropolitan Utility District water treatment plant in Omaha, Nebraska until his retirement. Following his retirement, Nick continued to serve his community through many volunteer activities. He participated in Memorial Day services and helped make cookies for the troops. He also served on the Board of Directors as president for Salem Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center from 2013 to 2018. Wherever he went, he was always quick to share a story or tell a joke. He had a passion for life and compassion for those who had it harder than he did.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents: Sam Nicotero Jr. and Dorothy (Halterman) Nicotero and brother Sam Nicotero III. He is survived by his son Nick (Kelly) Nicotero II of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 granddaughters: Ashley and Katie Nicotero; sister Debbra (Bob) Faust of Vancouver, Washington; brother Bruce (Terry) Nicotero of Visalia, California.
