Nina Virginia Genco DePue was born on May 1, 1921 to Paul and Gertrude Belle (Hunefeld) Genco in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Methodist Church in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge High School with the Class of 1939.
Nina worked as a secretary for the Webster County Assessor in Fort Dodge for many years and at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa before relocating to Avoca, Iowa. She retired as the Senior Aide Program Coordinator for West Central Development in 1995 and moved to Harlan in 2005.
Nina enjoyed crocheting, handicrafts, playing the piano and volunteering for many things. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Harlan.
Nina died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 while a resident at Elmcrest Retirement Home attaining the age of ninety-four years, five months and twenty-six days. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Thomas; three sisters: Marie Gross, Joan Hitchcock and Connie Tigner; and three brothers: Paul, Jr., Romeo, and George Genco.
Nina is survived by her daughter Mary and her husband Randall Armentrout of Harlan, Iowa; two granddaughters: Julie Armentrout of Waltham, Massachusetts and Jill Luchtenburg and her partner, Jerry Brown, and his children, Jacob and Alana Brown, of Parker, Colorado; other family members and friends.
