Nola Anna Schiltz was born on November 2, 1930 in Portsmouth, Iowa, to Michael and Odelia (Langenfeld) Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School where she graduated with the Class of 1948.
On November 25, 1952, Nola was united in marriage to Gerald J. Schiltz in Portsmouth. To this union, two children were born: Sandra and Roger.
Nola enjoyed family activities and cooking for her family. She liked playing cards, especially when she didn’t lose and drinking coffee with friends. She also enjoyed a glass of wine and believed one glass daily was good for her health.
Nola died Saturday, November 28, 2015 while a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Community, where she had called home for nine years, having attained the age of eighty five years and twenty-six days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nola is survived by her husband Gerald Schiltz of Harlan; her children: Sandy and her husband Kenneth Kenkel of Harlan and Roger Schiltz of Council Bluffs; sisters: Orma Fieber of Goodwin, South Dakota; Joan and her husband Alfred Leinen of Earling; Frances and her husband Joseph Bowen of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Lu Ann Isaac of Gate City, Virginia; brothers: Mick Schmidt, Leon Schmidt and Gary and his wife Pat Schmidt, all of Harlan; nieces and nephews other family members and many friends.
