Nora Irene Carmichael was born on December 6,1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Audrey (Conrad) Carmichael and Elbert Carmichael. She was the older of twin girls, holding a special bond with her twin sister, Dora. One of four siblings, Nora grew up in the Maryland area, attending school until tenth grade and residing with her mother. Following her mother’s death, Nora came to the Audubon, Iowa, area to live with her sister, Karen Springs.
Since February of 2003, Nora resided in a Concerned, Inc. waiver home and attended Concerned, Inc. workshop for thirteen years. Nora loved and thrived in the Concerned environment. Nora enjoyed shopping and music (especially Elvis), scrapbooking, going out to eat, and Concerned, Inc. dances and working. She is remembered as being playful with a teasing spirit.
Nora died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 while a patient at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, having attained the age of seventy-two years, two months, and eleven days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Karen Springs, Nancy Seibert and Dora Fletcher. She is survived by her guardian, Janice Gaul, her Concerned, Inc. family, and several nieces and nephews.
