Norma Lippincott, age 82 of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Walnut, Iowa passed away peacefully, February 15, 2025 at Hillcrest Rehab in Bellevue, Ne. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM preceding the service.
Norma was born October 29, 1942 in Omaha, the daughter of Carl and Anita (Suverkrubbe) Hansen. She was raised on a farm south of Blair with her family. She attended and graduated from Blair High School where she would meet her eventual husband Edwin.
She married Edwin Lippincott on April 19,1964 in Blair. Later, they adopted two children, Timothy Scott in 1968 and Gina Marie in 1972. They lived most of their lives in Walnut, Iowa. Together with Edwin, they ran a variety store in downtown Walnut which was a staple to the community for many years. She worked at the local grocery store for many years while the kids were in high school. She was a fixture at Tim and Gina’s activities that they were involved in throughout their youth and in school. She then worked at the admissions desk Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Ia until retiring and moved to Bennington, NE. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut and later after they moved to Bennington, NE was a member at Northwest Hills Church in Omaha.
She enjoyed playing cards and joined card clubs in Walnut and Omaha. She was in a pinochle card club with Edwin and five other couples for over 30 years in Walnut. She always had a book next to her chair that she was reading, and loved to bake/cook. Anytime was a good time for ice cream, especially after dinner with a good slice of pie! She loved making Christmas cookies every year with her daughter-in-law and grandkids. She had a big sweet tooth and always had candies out, including her favorite Werther’s Originals to share with anyone visiting.
Her grandchildren remember her infectious snorting laugh, always having flavored sparkling water in the fridge, and the handmade stockings which made Christmases so special. They remember staying up late with Grandma, eating snacks and talking over life. They have many memories from trips taken together in their childhood like a road trip to Yellowstone National Park where she fell asleep in the car snoring and the grandkids tried throwing cheese puffs into her mouth, and a trip to Alaska where many games of cards were played on trains and coffee was enjoyed in the mornings looking for wildlife. Many years were spent annually at Mahoney State Park for a family weekend where all the grandkids did crafts, rode horses, hiked and swam. The family gathered each year in Walnut over Father’s Day weekend for the Antique walk where Norma could be found at the Peace United Church booth selling homemade ice cream and pie.
Norma is survived by her son: Tim (Stephanie) Lippincott; grandchildren: Aleisha (Bornwell) Peresuh, Kylie (Brandon) Sparks, Brooks (Ashley) Ginn, Devin Ginn; great grandchildren: Myla Ginn, Gabriel Peresuh; brother Merle (Lori) Hansen; brother-in-law Roger Lippincott.
