Norman William Christensen was born on October 5, 1935 to Walter and Elsie (Walters) Christensen on a farm north of Atlantic, Iowa. He attended country school. In 1949, he moved to what they called Rorbeck, southwest of Elk Horn, Iowa.

On April 20, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Namanny at Peace Church in Walnut. Norman served from 1958 to 1960 in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He returned to the farm and worked at a gas station, drove truck, and did farm work for local farmers. He went to work for the Department of Transportation in Atlantic but was badly hurt in of 1995 in a work-related accident that changed his life.

He was a horse man and was a member of the Elk Horn Saddle Club for many years. In August of 1996, they moved to Harlan. He was a resident of the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center for several months.

Norman died on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan having attained the age of seventy-seven years, six months, and twenty-seven days. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Shirley Christensen of Harlan, Iowa, other family members and friends.

A private burial was held at the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.
