Opal Irene Armstrong was born on December 11, 1946 in Fontanelle, Iowa to Hugh and Agnes (Jetschat) Armstrong. She was the younger of two children, and had an older sister, Lois. Her family moved to Walnut in 1957 and Opal graduated from Walnut High School in 1965.

Opal was united into marriage to William "Bill" Griffith on June 12, 1965 at the Presbyterian Church in Walnut, Iowa. Bill and Opal spent their honeymoon in Florida in 1965. They made their home in Walnut. Opal worked at Publisher News in Atlantic, Iowa before becoming a full-time wife and mother. They were the parents of three sons: Courtney, Adrian and Shannon.

Bill and Opal began their Antique business in the late 1970's. Through the years, Bill and Opal expanded their antique business to include owning and operating three stores in Walnut: Farm Fresh Antiques, The Walnut Antique Mall and The Antique Furniture Emporium. Bill and Opal enjoyed the hunt for antiques and when they were not together at their shop, they were frequently together at antique shows and auctions. She also enjoyed fishing and boating at their lake house at Lost Island Lake.

Opal and Bill began spending winters in Florida in 2005 and continued until his passing in 2020. She enjoyed following their sons' and grandchildren's many sporting activities. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Opal also enjoyed hosting family for the holidays. She always made amazing meals and loved having everyone together for food and games.

Opal passed away March 21, 2023. She had attained the age of 76 years 3 months and 10 days. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, sister Lois (Jack) Osborn, and Aunt Doris Rhea.

She leaves to celebrate her memory her sons, Courtney Griffith of Walnut, Iowa; Adrian Griffith, of Walnut Iowa; Shannon (Teresa) Griffith of Walnut Iowa; grandchildren Kane (Savannah) Griffith; Seth (Kelsey) Griffith; Will (Ronda) Griffith; Courtlyn (Randy) Arbuckle; Mason, Hugh, Ian and Rhys Griffith; great-grandchildren Kyla, Kaydence, Seeley, Karsyn Griffith; Hayden, Hadley, Harper, Hannah, Hazel Griffith; Drew and Braelyn Griffith; Tristan, Keagin, and Elsie Arbuckle; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
