Opal M. Jensen
April 9, 1931 — December 28, 2008
Opal Marie Jensen was born on April 9, 1931, to Elmer and Matie Hansen in Davenport, Iowa. The family lived in Fiscus, Iowa, before moving to Colorado in 1936. In 1940, they returned to the Fiscus and Harlan area where Opal graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1949.
She was united in marriage on December 25, 1949 to Daryl Jensen at her home in Harlan. One son, Arlin, was born to this union.
Opal was a member of the Baptist Church in Fiscus and then at Bethel Baptist in Harlan. In 1985, she became a member of the First Christian Church in Harlan.
She was a devoted wife and mother and spent most of her years being a housewife and taking care of the homeplace. She also did some trucking for a few years before deciding to stay at home.
She became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in June of 2007 and it was there that she died on Sunday, December 28, 2008, having attained the age of seventy-seven years, eight months, and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Opal is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Daryl Jensen of Harlan, Iowa and her son, Arlin Jensen also of Harlan, Iowa; and many friends.
A funeral service was held on Friday, January 2, 2009, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Pastor Don Robinson officiated the 10:30 AM service. Casket bearers were John Keenam, Carlyle Larsen, Richard Hansen, Larry Klein, Dan Campbell, and Larry Clemons. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
