Ora “Bill” Hugh Babbitt
Ora “Bill” Hugh Babbitt was born on March 6, 1925 to Glenn and
Hazel(Franklin) Babbitt near Marne in Cass County Iowa. Bill was the eighth child of a family of eleven. Bill attended several country schools and graduated from Walnut High School with the class of 1942.
He helped on the family farm until he married Maye Ellen Stormer on December 19, 1943 in Shenandoah, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Connie, Patricia and Garvin.
Bill’s farming was his passion. He always considered farming not only his occupation but his lifetime hobby. One of the things he loved most about farming was how all the neighbors helped each other in times of need.
Other interests he had when not farming were fishing, hunting, square dancing and ballroom dancing. Some of his achievements were Cattleman of the Year and Pork Producer of the Year.
He was a 4-H Leader for four years and board member of the Shelby County Pork Producers.
Bill died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday May 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Hubert, Darlene, Doris, Clara, Bud, Dean, Velma and Neva.
Bill is survived by his wife Maye Babbitt of Avoca, Iowa; Connie Robinson of Shelby, Iowa; Patricia and her husband Rodney Blount of Merriam, Kansas and Garvin Babbitt and his wife Judy of Avoca, Iowa; sister Hyla Nash of Atlantic, Iowa; brother Dell and his wife Sharon Babbitt of Estes Park, Colorado; Nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
