Patricia A. Duistermars, 84, Avoca, Iowa, formerly of Alton, Iowa, died February 27, 2022, at the Avoca Care Initiatives, Specialty Care Center. A private family service is being planned for the interment of her ashes.
Patti was born on May 26, 1937, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Elmer J. Lund and Florence (Boyd) Lund. Following graduation from LeMars Community Schools she went on to attend the University of South Dakota and Northwestern College (Orange City).
Patti lived in Alton for many years. She worked as a secretary at Floyd Valley Middle School in Newkirk. Later, she co-owned with her business partner, Judy Punt, the Gift Garden Hallmark card shop in Alton. Her working career came to an end as a part-time employee with Pluim Publishing, Inc., Orange City.
Patti was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, an avid reader, collector of antique furniture and consummate bridge player, especially against that darn computer.
Patti had a competitive side with a passion for sports. She faithfully followed her children’s athletic careers throughout middle school, high school and college. Many times, she attended three different events at three different locations in the same day. She never missed an event, and her kids have totes of faded scrapbooks to remind them of her loving support.
Patti is survived by her children: Blaine of Council Bluffs, Kris (Bob) McCarthy of Avoca, Gregg of Council Bluffs; grandson, Shaun McCarthy and friend Brooklynn Schmidt, great granddaughters, Bailey and Stella McCarthy. Her brother, Jimmy (Betty) Lund of Woodbourne, New York, as well as nieces, nephews and many other dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jeanene J. Lund-Bakke.
