Patricia Ann Frazier
August 25, 1925 — July 7, 2018
Patricia Ann Frazier, daughter of Floyd Merle and Doris Catherine (Cook) Larkin, was born on August 25, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was baptized at the United Brethren Church and attended school in Van Meter, Iowa, graduating from Van Meter High School with the class of 1943. After high school, Patricia attended summer school at Simpson College where she received a teaching certificate. In the fall, she started teaching at a country school in Madison County.
After teaching for some years, Pat returned to Simpson College to complete her teaching degree. She joined Delta Delta Delta sorority. She also met the man who would later become the love of her life, Orville Frazier. Patricia and Orville were united in marriage August 10, 1948, at University Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Daniel Larkin Frazier and Diane Lynn Frazier.
They first taught together at Dexter School District in Dexter, Iowa. They later taught at Griswold, Coon Rapids, and Guthrie Center before settling in Harlan, Iowa. Pat continued to teach after their marriage. Patricia taught first grade for fifteen years in Irwin until her retirement in 1988.
Orville and Patricia shared many interests, including sports, coaching, and working with young people. Orville was a private pilot and Pat obtained her pilot's license as well. They loved spending summers at their cabin that they built themselves, in Northern Minnesota and enjoyed water sports there.
A short time after their retirement, Patricia and Orville made their home in Arizona for 15 years. After the death of her husband, Patricia returned to Harlan where she remained active in reading and bridge groups and was an avid participant. She will be remembered as the sweetest wife, mother, and grandmother, who was very easy going and very supportive of her family.
Patricia died at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, on July 7, 2018, having attained the age of ninety-two years, ten months, and twelve days. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Phillip Larkin. She is survived by her children: Daniel Frazier and his wife Deanna of Belmond, Iowa, and Diane and her husband Keith Manlove of Rochester, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Logan and Claire Manlove and Caitlin and Ethan Frazier; her sister Marilyn Smith of Urbandale, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting gifts in Pat’s name be to the Harlan Public Library.
