Patricia Ann (Trafton) Jones
January 25, 1943 — November 2, 2023
Patricia Ann Jones, daughter of Harold F. and Bertha (Beetham) Trafton was born January 25, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was baptized at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in St. Louis. Her family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1948 when her father took a position at Mercy Hospital. She attended Duchense Academy in Omaha, Nebraska and later graduated from College of St. Mary, where she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting.
On October 8, 1960, Patricia was united in marriage to Richard A. Jones at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Five children were born to this union: Deborah, Deanne, Mary Beth, Richard T., and Michael. In 1971, they moved to Harlan, Iowa, where Patty helped Dick with the bookkeeping at Pauley Funeral Home. After their divorce, she worked in the Superintendent’s office at Harlan High School.
In 1997, Patty bought her dream home on Lake Minnewashta in Arnold Park, Iowa at Lake Okoboji. She spent many years, driving back and forth to Harlan while she worked for her daughter Dede at Western Iowa Medical. She loved the lake life and being on lake time. She was very active in community beautification committees, kayaking groups, and campaigning for her best friend, Mardi Allen.
Patty enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was working in her yard or sitting on the deck watching the boats and birds. She loved traveling and her trips with Mardi. At the end of the day, she also like to enjoy a “hot-toddy” while working on a puzzle.
She passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at her home in Arnold’s Park, attaining the age of eighty years, nine months, and eight days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Rick Jones, and great granddaughter Rayna Lindberg.
She is survived by her children Deborah (Rowland) Burton of Irwin, Iowa; Deanne (Craig) Kroger of Harlan, Iowa; Beth (Scott) Andersen of Ankeny, Iowa; Michael (Anna) Jones of Harlan, Iowa, daughter-in-law Betts Jones of Harlan, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings Mary Kay (Sal) Carta of Omaha, Nebraska; Bette (Randy) Schmidt of Carter Lake, Iowa; Harry (Toni) Trafton of Underwood, Iowa; Teresa (Gerry) Blackburn of Estero, Florida; best friend Mardi (Steve) Allen of Okoboji, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
