Patricia "Pat" Margaret Kenkel

Patricia “Pat” Margaret Kenkel was born on July 6, 1944 to Leonard and Alice (Schiltz) Fahn in Defiance, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. She started school at St. Peter’s, finished grade school and junior high at St. Michael’s, and graduated from Harlan High School.
On April 25, 1964, she was united in marriage to Damian Kenkel in Harlan. They became parents to three children: Kristene, Rodney, and Chad. Pat loved being a homemaker, raising her children, and helping her husband on the farm. She also worked in the banking industry for several years.
Pat enjoyed the outdoors and outdoor activities such as golfing, biking, and gardening. She liked arts and crafts, making ceramics for her family and friends. She loved to sew, quilt, go dancing, and travel with her husband. When she wasn’t cooking or baking for her family, she enjoyed being with her Club group, The Lively 20's, playing cards and games, and was an active member of St. Mary’s for fifty-one years.
Pat died on Friday, December 11, 2015 at her home in Panama, having attained the age of seventy-one years, five months, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Luke Kenkel.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Damian Kenkel of Panama, Iowa; daughter Kristene Schaben of Harlan, Iowa; sons Rodney Kenkel and his wife Angela of Harlan, Iowa and Chad Kenkel and his wife Kelly of Carroll, Iowa; twelve grandchildren: Dustin, Evan, and Alise Schaben, Joel, Mark, Matthew, Michael, and Grace Kenkel, and Margaret, Eve, and John Kenkel; two great-grandchildren: Landyn and Logan Schaben; brothers and sisters: Duane Fahn and his wife Karen of Harlan, Iowa, Yvonne and her husband David Krueger of Omaha, Nebraska, Edna and her husband Ron Odendahl of Carroll, Iowa, JoAnn and her husband Larry Mayes of Renton, Washington, Kenneth Fahn and his wife Stacey of Harlan, Iowa, Keith Fahn and his wife Debra of Carroll, Iowa, Mary and her husband Dan D’Arcy of Harlan, Iowa, Peggy Thrasher and John Heithoff, Randy Fahn and his wife Cindy, and Jane and her husband Eric Rogers all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
