Patsy Jean Petersen was born on July 5, 1928 to Will and Ethel (Kingsbury) Meyer near Corley, Iowa. She attended country school in Corley and then the Harlan Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947.
On March 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harry Petersen, Jr. at the Methodist Church in Harlan. They farmed near Corley for five years and then moved to a farm north of Jacksonville. In 1965, they moved to a farm a mile up the road, where they remained.
Patsy collected dishes starting with ones she received from her mother and then finding them at estate sales. She and Harry shared a love of horses and were members of the Appaloosa Horse Club as well as the Shelby County Saddle Club. She was also a cat lover and had a special place in her heart for her cats Sammy and Tiger.
In the early 1980's, Patsy went back to school and obtained her CNA license. She began employment with Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, where she worked for several years.
Patsy enjoyed going to eat at Mickel’s and having coffee with her husband while they drove around in his truck in the evenings. She was a very quiet person with a good sense of humor and always looked forward to her family coming to stay on the farm with her and Harry. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1997.
After Harry’s death in 2014, she became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home, where she died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the age of eighty-seven years, nine months, and twenty-two days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Richard Meyer and Ed Plagman, sister Joy Allen, and step-father John Plagman.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law Charlotte Andersen and Nadine Campbell both of Harlan, Iowa, and Margaret Plagman of Corley, Iowa; brother-in-law Arlo Petersen of Harlan; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
