Paul Arnold Blume was born at Ames, Iowa, July 13, 1939, the son of Arnold J. and Martha Stoltz Blume. When he was young the family moved to the Dow City and Dunlap areas where he was raised and received his education being graduated from the Dow City High School. From April 30, 1956, until his discharge July 31, 1962, Paul served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army. In March of 1959, Paul was united in marriage with Opal Clark and their union was blessed with two children, Richard and Paula. With the exception of residing in Washington during his time in the service, they made their home at Deloit, Iowa, where Paul employed as a truck driver until his retirement. Since 2005 he had resided in Denison. In his spare time Paul enjoyed music, especially playing guitar and drums, auctioneering, riding motorcycles, antique tractors, collecting guns and hunting and fishing. After becoming a grandfather he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Paul died at his home in Denison Monday, November 12, 2007. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 68 years, 3 months and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Those remaining to cherish his memory include one son, Richard Blume and wife, Suzi of Denison, one daughter, Paula and husband, Tyson Campbell of Denison, three grandchildren, Shelia Mae Beam of Dow City and Cody and Carter Campbell of Denison, two great grandchildren, Alec Hast and Cael Beam of Dow City, one brother, Ronald Blume of Minnesota, other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services and inurnment were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly officiating. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Following the services the family invited everyone to join them at St. Rose Parish Center for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose of Lima Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements where on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, a Legion of Mary Rosary, led by Richard and Rosemarie Penn, was held at 4:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service, led by Father Paul Kelly was held at 5:30 p.m. Online condolences may be directed to www.pfannebecker.com .
