Paul Robert Schroder was born on August 15, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Aaron and Mina (Eckert) Schroder. He attended grade school in Council Bluffs and then moved to Hancock, Iowa with his mother. He attended school and graduated from Hancock with the class of 1951. Paul was baptized and confirmed at the Silver Creek EUB Church in Hancock.

After high school graduation Paul went right to work farming where he would spend the next 71 years building his dream. Paul was a lifelong member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church where he held many leadership positions. On May 8, 1954, he was united in marriage to Carolyn McKnabb at the Harlan United Methodist Church.

He loved to fish and spent many summer family vacations in Minnesota. Paul and Carolyn had a cabin in Okoboji where many fond memories were made. He was a Master Pork Producer in 1993 with his son Mark. Paul was the first farmer in the area to have a diesel tractor, was a part of the Conservation Club in Hancock and the Citizens Band Radio club. Paul was so proud of his grandchildren and the fact that all of them attained a 4 year college degree or higher. He loved telling the latest joke he had heard.

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Paul passed away at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan having attained the age of 89 years and 26 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dwayne and wife, Dorothy, sister-in-law, Inez Klindt-Dreager and husband, Bernard and brother-in-law, Norman Nielsen.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years Carolyn Schroder of Hancock, Iowa; children Kathy Grote of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Sharon (Paul) Maassen of Omaha, Nebraska; Mark (Lyla) Schroder of Hancock, Iowa; Marsha (Brent) Bierbaum of Griswold, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Michelle (Mike) Bakker; Aaron (Angie) Grote; Kristen Jacobsen; Angie (Mike) Frink; Matt Maassen; Steve (Megan) Schroder; Chad Schroder; Jonathan (Katie) Schroder; Rachel (Ryan) Hoffman; Adam (Megan) Bierbaum; Joshua (Logan) Bierbaum; 14 great-grandchildren; Ryne, Tryce, Dominic, Julia, Emma, Logan, Ryder, Clara, Avis, Graham, Reagan, Austin, Nathan and Addison; sisters-in-law Mildred Nielsen of Dunlap, Iowa; Betty (Eugene) Juhl of Irwin, Iowa; other family and many friends.
