The family suggests memorials be made to Paul's Tree Fund, Shelby County
Catholic School, or Boy Scout Troop 90.

Paul Martin Zaccone entered this world on July 17, 1996 into the loving arms of his parents Mark and Kimberly (Gehringer) Zaccone in Elk Grove Village, IL. His spirit was blessed through baptism and confirmation at St Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. His schooling began in West Chicago, Illinois and continued in Harlan, Iowa where he graduated in 2015 from Harlan Community High School. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he was thriving.
Paul's life journey centered around making connections and forming bonds with everyone he met. This began with his special tie to his brother, Adam, exploring the outdoors and strategizing their next game. Paul and Adam began to travel the world together, from Costa Rica to Italy, and Paul will remain with Adam on every adventure - keeping him safe.
Paul's spirit was influenced by many relationships as a young child. From early on he was nurtured by his Iowa and Michigan families with solid mid-western values. Paul enjoyed spending holidays with his grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. With his Chicago Family, "The Gang", he camped and celebrated birthdays with pure joy. He was loved and encouraged by his Shelby County Catholic teachers and classmates. The most instrumental brotherhood was Boy Scouts, including Nani- Ba-Zhu and Order of the Arrow, where service to others was fostered as he obtained his Eagle rank. Many have mentioned Paul's powerful life force in their "family", whether it was soccer, trapshooting, Student Council, FFA, band or simply the classroom. Even when working at the baseball concession stand or counseling at Camp Cedars, Paul connected with everyone he met. As Paul crossed over into college, he continued to build joy in his life with his dorm buddies and his brothers of Sigma-Phi-Epsilon.
Paul was good-natured and loved to "play" and use humor to connect. He would regularly walk his dog up to visit seniors or crack a good joke in class. He socialized through competition in board games and other activities like racquetball and ultimate frisbee. His spirit touched others in everything he did.
We will forever see Paul heading out the back door, hatchet in hand, working to flame the next fire. His light will continue to burn bright, for everyone to see. Paul was a dreamer and envisioned traveling the world. His life experience in Japan provided direction for him in many ways. His dreams will live on in those he loves so he may continue his journey.
His untimely death occurred on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the young age of nineteen years. He travels on in the hearts of his parents, Mark and Kimberly, and brother Adam of Harlan, Iowa; maternal grandparents Michael and Jacqueline Gehringer of Dexter, Michigan; paternal grandparents Martin and Mary Jane Zaccone of Harlan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the four winds.
