Peggy Jeannine Ellsworth was born December 12, 1936, to Marcellus (“Sal”) and Evelyn (Frahm) Grundmeier in Carroll, Iowa. She attended school in Manning and graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1955.
After graduation, she worked as a Nurses Aid at Manning General then attended the State of Iowa School of Nursing in Iowa City where she graduated with an LPN in 1958. She returned to Manning and worked a few years at Manning General Hospital before she moved to Harlan, Iowa to continue her nursing career at Myrtue Memorial Hospital, where she worked for many years.
On March 27, 1965 Peggy married Ron Ellsworth, a radiology technician she met at Myrtue, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. They were married for 54 years before Ron passed in 2019.
Away from work Peggy and Ron built a beautiful set of gardens at their home in Corley, winning numerous prizes for their flowers over the years at the County fair. An avid reader, Peggy’s study is bursting with books - many about history, genealogy, and politics. Peggy also loved listening to music from 40s & 50s singers to Classical to her favorite Irish folk tunes, which reminded her of her time in Ireland.
Peggy passed away July 20, 2023 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, having reached the age of 86. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Ron, son Benjamin Ellsworth, brother David Grundmeier, and brother Joel Grundmeier.
Peggy is survived by her son Damon (Tammy Nelson) Ellsworth of Harlan; daughter Beth Ellsworth of Waldoboro, Maine; son Chad (Collen) of Omaha, NE; son Daniel (Melissa) Ellsworth of Erie, CO; son Darrin (Amy) Ellsworth of Ely, IA; sister Joanie Reiter, sister Susie Schilling, brother Mark (Jerri) Grundmeier; sisters-in-law Bev Grundmeier and Alice Grundmeier; and eight grandchildren.
A visitation will be held for Peggy at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan on July 25th from 5 to 7 PM. At a later date, the family will hold a private service and burial at which time Peggy will join Ron and Ben in the family plot near Corley.
