Peggy Ann Leinen was born on June 6, 1952, to Alfred and Leonetta (Rosman) Kenkel near Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa and attended grade school at St. Joseph�s Catholic School. She graduated from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 1970 and went on to graduate from Capitol School of Cosmetology in Omaha, Nebraska.
On June 9, 1973, Peggy was united in marriage to Edward T. Leinen at St. Joseph�s in Earling. Four children were born to them: Melissa, Katie, Sarah, and Michael.
Peggy loved working as a cosmetologist and opened her own shop in 1979. She ran it for several years and enjoyed every one of her clients. She had also worked at Club 191 in Portsmouth and at Oriental Trading Company.
She had many hobbies including quilting, gardening, and home improvement. She loved playing cards and video games but her favorite pastime was being with her grandchildren.
Peggy died suddenly on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She had attained the age of fifty-eight years, nine months, and thirty days and was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-seven years Edward Leinen of Portsmouth, Iowa; children: Melissa and her husband Brad Schwery of Portsmouth, Iowa, Katie and her husband Matt Burns of Indianola, Iowa, Sarah and her husband Shawn Garner of Des Moines, Iowa, and Michael Leinen and his friend Amy Bethel of Minneapolis, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; brothers Dennis Kenkel and his wife Marie and Jack Kenkel and his wife Gloria all of Earling, Iowa; and Dean Kenkel and his wife Pam of Underwood, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. John Dorton at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 8, 2011 at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa. Interment was held at St. Mary�s Cemetery in Portsmouth, Iowa with Bruce Kenkel, Brian Kenkel, Allen Leinen, Jr., Paul Kenkel, Kurt Kenkel and Jake Alexander serving as casket bearers.
