Phyllis Larimore Bintz was born August 16, 1922 to Arthur and Elsa (Schilling) Larimore in Avoca, Iowa. At the age of three her family moved to the Monroe, Nebraska vicinity and spent the next eleven years farming there. The family moved back to Avoca, Iowa when she was in her freshman year. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1940.
Phyllis worked in the office of Joe Turner, a local attorney until she married Earl Bintz of Minden, Iowa. They were married at Hanscom Park Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska on July 19, 1942. She worked at the Grulke Drug Store while Earl served oversees in WWII. Following his return from the war they lived the next sixty two years on the Bintz family farm south of Minden where they raised their three children - Gale, Becky and Mary.
Phyllis and Earl loved to dance, bowl and play cards. She took up golf and painting later in life and loved to cook and bake. She was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ, the Avoca Golf & Country Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 437.
Phyllis died on Tuesday April 14, 2015 at Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, Iowa having attained ninety two years, seven months and twenty nine days. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, Earl, brother, Don and wife Hattie Larimore, and brother-in-law, Charles Rutenbeck.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Gale (Diana) Bintz of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughters, Becky (Wayne) Jacobsen of Avoca, Iowa; and Mary (David) Lefeber of Minden, Iowa; sisters, Colleen Rutenbeck of Des Moines, Iowa and Robin (Gene) Thomsen of Elk Horn, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
