Phyllis Jean Krohn was born on February 23, 1938 in Shelby County, Iowa. She was born on her grandparent’s farm, where Lance Scott resides today. She was the daughter of Ivan and Vera (Scott) Woltmann. Phyllis was the eldest of four children. When she was 12 years old, her father suddenly passed away from meningitis. Phyllis then took on the main responsibilities of doing the livestock chores with her mother on the farm. She attended country school through fifth grade. When Phyllis was in 6th grade, she started to attend public school in Walnut, Iowa. She was involved in 4-H for 10 years and held county offices. She excelled in the sports of basketball and softball starting all four years of high school. During her senior year, the basketball team played in the Iowa High School Girls 6 on 6 State Tournament. Phyllis graduated with the Walnut Class of 1957. After graduation, she worked at Guaranteed Mutual in Omaha, Nebraska.

Phyllis was married to Wayne Krohn on May 29, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. They first farmed southeast of Avoca, eventually moving back to the Krohn family farm in 1974. They were the parents of two sons, Dale and Dean. Phyllis’s main interests were her family and the farm, in which she took an active part in the operation.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and was an ELCA circle leader. Phyllis also served as Luther League youth group sponsor.

Wayne and Phyllis enjoyed wintering in Florida for 20 years. Her favorite activities were playing cards and dancing. After retiring from farming, they moved to Avoca in the year 2000. In August of 2017, she became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Surrounded by her family, Phyllis passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 attaining the age of eighty years, ten months and seventeen days. In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her step-father Alvin Holtz and brother-in-law Marty Schuemann.

Left to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty years Wayne Krohn of Avoca, Iowa; sons Dale (Kim) Krohn and Dean (Joy) Krohn both of Avoca, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren - Brian (Mirranda) Krohn - Ayla, Paige, Peyton of Urbandale, Iowa; Darren (Nicole) Krohn - Lucy and Isaac of Avoca, Iowa; Jill (Kyle) Clayton - Evelyn and Allison of Walnut, Iowa; Adam (Kristen) Krohn - Parker and Blair; Preston (Ashley) Krohn - Sadie and Kinley; Joshua (Taylor) Krohn all of Avoca, Iowa; sisters Mariann (Roy) Plautz of Fishers, Indiana; JoAnn Schuemann of Avoca, Iowa; one brother Kenneth (Linda) Woltmann of Grimes, Iowa; one step-brother Leroy Holtz of Niceville, Florida; one step-sister Shirley (Mark) Johnson of Asheville, North Carolina; sister-in-laws Sharon Livingston of Pensacola, Florida, Janice (Jack) Carlson of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Diane (Mike) Ashbaugh of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
