Regenia “Jean” Kregness was born in Sioux City, Iowa, February 7, 1915, the daughter of Henry and Goldie Williams Brandt. She was raised there graduating from Central High School and Briar Cliff College. On April 18, 1936, Jean was united in marriage to R. J. “Rainy” Kregness at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morningside and their union was blessed with one son, Jim. In July of 1937, the family moved to Denison where Jean was a homemaker, artist and seamstress. Rainy died October 6, 1989 and Jean continued to make her home in Denison, where she golfed daily until age 89 and swam daily until age 92. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where she was very active in the Ladies Guild and assisted with Bingo and the Denison Country Club from 1937 until 2004. Jean died Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 2010, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 95 years, 3 months and 11 days. Including her parents and her husband, Jean was also preceded in death by her sister, Jenny Parish and her grandson, Tim Kregness. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her son, Jim Kregness and friend Dorothy Mendlik of Denison, two granddaughters, Julie Kregness Thorsen and husband Larry of Omaha, Nebraska and Lisa Kregness of South Pasadena, California, two great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Other participants in the mass included Servers: Casey Eiten and Michaela Ahrenholtz; Lector: Dan C. Pfannebecker; Gift Bearers: Jim Kregness and Dorothy Mendlik; and Eucharistic Ministers: Nora Millea, and Thomas and Janice Carlyle. Music for the mass was provided by the St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art” with Jean Cornelius serving as accompanist. Inurnment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison with Father Timothy Friedrichsen officiating. Following the inurnment the family invited everyone to join them at the Parish Center for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and provided by St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, a Legion of Mary Rosary was prayed followed by a Parish Vigil Service at 5:30 p.m. led by Father Paul Kelly.
