Judith “ Judy” Ann Piper was born on December 22, 1947 in Harlan, Iowa on the dining room table to Kenneth E. and Betty Jean (Hartman) Campbell. She attended Harlan Community High School and graduated with the class of 1966.
Judy was united in marriage to Harrell G. Piper, Jr. on August 24, 1969 at United Methodist Church , in Harlan, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: son, David, March 16, 1970, and daughter, Jennifer, January 24, 1973. Harrell and Judy went their separate ways in 1981. She never regretted marrying Harrell because it resulted in two children and she was very proud of their accomplishments.
In the summer of 1981, Judy moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to attend Seminary at St. Paul’s School of Theology. In 1984, Judy became a Reverend and on June 3, 1984, became a Deacon, and then Elder on June 8th 1986. During her ministry career she held five appointments: Northboro, Iowa/Blanchard, Iowa from 1984-1987; Woodbine, Iowa 1987-1991; Humboldt, Rutland, Bradgate, and Gilmore City, Iowa from 1991-1996; Holstein, Iowa from 1996-2002; and Sidney/Thurman from 2002-2005. Judy enjoyed being a minister and everyone that came to meet her always was fond of her. For Judy, this made the long hours just that much more worthwhile.
After Judy’s, fifth appointment she went on disability from the Iowa Annual Conference and moved to Sioux City to be with her son, David, and daughter, Jennifer. She had been in and out of the hospital during her time in Sioux City, Iowa for kidney dialysis treatments. Her daughter Jennifer was her care giver.
Rev. Judith “Judy” Ann Campbell Piper loved life and her family. She adored all her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews too. She loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas. During the Christmas season no matter where she lived she attempted to have the family over for dinner. She would “Deck the Halls” literally! She also enjoyed taking David and Jennifer on summer vacations and attending the Iowa State Fair. Judy loved nature: butterflies, flowers, trees, clouds, and rainbows. She was kind, warm and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends no matter the time constraints due to church meetings.
Judy died on August 4, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa attaining the age of sixty-eight years, seven months, and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Betty Jean Campbell, brothers Kenny and David Campbell, and sister Betty Jean “BJ” Hemminger.
