Rhonda R. Jensen
March 9, 1942 — January 30, 2015
Rhonda Rae Jensen was born on March 9, 1942 to Orville and Sylvia (Paulsen) Winther at her Grandma Winther’s Nursing Home in Audubon, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Hamlin Lutheran Church, attended Hamlin No. 2, and graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1960.
On November 17, 1970, she was united in marriage to Virgil Jensen at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she remained a lifelong member. With children Gary and Jolene, they became a family on their farm.
Rhonda worked as a bookkeeper for Southland Savings and Loan in Chula Vista, California, Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha, Nebraska, and for Petersen Brothers Feed and Grain in Jacksonville, Iowa for over thirty years. She served as church secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran for the past fifteen years.
She was currently a member of the Shelby County State Bank bowling team that bowled on the Tuesday Afternoon Ladies League. She was also an active member of the Women of the Word ladies group at church and an instrumental part of Vacation Bible School and other church programs running smoothly.
Rhonda was admitted to Hospice care at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan where she died on Friday, January 30, 2015 having attained the age of seventy-two years, ten months, and twenty-one days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, and her sister Sandra.
She is survived by her son Gary Jensen of Benicia, California; her daughter Jolene and her husband Allan Andersen of Elk Horn, Iowa; three granddaughters: Valerie and her husband John Greving of Ankeny, Iowa, Jennifer Jensen of Claremont, California, and Emily Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandson Jack Allan Greving of Ankeny; brother Merlyn Winther and his wife Sonna of Spencer, Iowa; brother-in-law Eldon Ericksen of Lewis, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
