Richard “Dick” James Johnson was born November 28, 1939 to Gaylord and Mildred (Christensen) Johnson of Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized at Altamont Baptist Church in Cuppy’s Grove. He graduated from Harlan High School.
On August 1, 1973 he was united in marriage to Marlene Hattig Steinman at Elk Point, South Dakota. He joined Marlene with her three children William, Kathrine, and Kristine Steinman.
Richard and Marlene made their home on Richard’s Grandpa’s farm in 1974 in Harlan, Iowa. They enjoyed their life on the farm and Richard farmed with his father and then by himself until 2014. They made yearly trips to Canada fishing with their friends and made many good memories. Richard loved to hunt and especially trap shoot with his friends in Westphalia, Iowa. Richard enjoyed going to state trap shoots in Nebraska and Iowa. He made many friends doing this over the years.
Richard died on Thursday May 7, 2015 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of seventy five years, five months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his brother David Dean Johnson, grandparents Woodman and May Johnson, Roy and Olive Christensen, uncles Herman and Everette Johnson and sisters-in-law Glatha and Gladys Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Marlene Johnson of rural Harlan, Iowa: parents Mildred and Gaylord Johnson of Walnut, Iowa; stepchildren William and his wife Linda Steinman of Emerson, Nebraska; Kathrine and her husband Darrin Schnepel of Forney, Texas; Kristine and her husband Greg Gillilan of Wausau, Nebraska; step-grand children Tiffany Schnepel of Arlington, Texas; Paige and Piper Steinman of Emerson, Nebraska, Derek Gillilan of Wausau, Nebraska; and great grandson Amari Schnepel of Arlington, Texas.
