Richard “Dick” Russmann
Richard (Dick) Allen Russmann passed away Sept 11, 2016 while helping to bale hay. He was born July 18, 1931 at his parents’ home southwest of Avoca, third oldest of seven children. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1948 and began farming with his father and uncle, Herman. He lived and worked on his own farm east of Avoca since 1957.
He married Geraldine Hicks in March of 1957 and to this union eight children were born. He worked very hard every day of his life to support his family. Over the years, he raised cattle, hogs, chickens and sheep in addition to growing corn, soybeans, and oats. He loved coffee, reading, old TV shows, animals and playing cards. He was very proud of his children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He was a man of integrity and a man of few words. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lisle (Harris) Russmann, his brother, Gary Russmann, two children, Kathy Kay and Richard Jr., granddaughter, Kerrie (Holtz) Orozco, two grandsons Erik and Ethan Holtz, and son-in-law Kevin Holtz.
Dick is also survived by his six children, Ellen Holtz , Judy (Steve) Griffin, Laurie (Timothy) McNeil, James (Patricia) Russmann, Thomas (Marita) Russmann, and Chris (Kristine) Russmann; his sisters, Bonnie Willett, Norma Herrell, Shirley Thies, Carol Young, Marge Kobs, and sister-in-law Jane Russmann; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many family members and friends.
