Robert Willis Fresener was born on May 20, 1923, to John and Winifred (Meister) Fresener near Walnut, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Walnut High School with the Class of 1942.
He entered the United States Army on January 16, 1943 and served overseas in Central Europe during World War II. He was united in marriage to Ardelle Kite on December 2, 1945. After his discharge in February of 1946, he returned to the Walnut area and farmed south of town. He also drove a truck for Suhr�s and Jacobsen�s and worked at the Walnut Elevator and the Shelby Elevator. He retired in 1985.
Robert was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut, Iowa, the Walnut American Legion Post No. 422, the Walnut Amvets, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed playing pitch and bingo and would always open his gifts early.
Robert lived at Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut with his wife until Ardelle�s death in 2005. He became a resident of the Avoca Nursing Home in October of 2008 and it was there that he died on Monday, May 18, 2009, having attained the age of eighty-five years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ardelle, and his brother Cletus.
Robert leaves to mourn his passing his Godchild Stacy and her husband Eric McIlnay of Glenwood, Iowa and many friends.
Rev. Gail Muckey conducted the 10:30 AM funeral service on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut, Iowa. Casket bearers were Doug Matthies, Donnie Bauerkemper, Walt Sampson, Rob Sampson, Dean Ausdemore, and Rex Sievers. The AmVets Post No. 45 and Walnut Legion Post No. 422 provided military rites at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.
