Robert “Bob” Hinners was born in Carroll, Iowa, October 26, 1937, the son of Alfred and Hildegaard Grote Hinners. He was raised on the farm at Arcadia and received his education in the Ar-We-Va Schools graduating with the class of 1957. On October 25, 1958, Bob was united in marriage with Ione Muggenberg at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children: Theresa, Joseph, Tammy and Tracey. They made their home in Denison where Bob was employed at Farmland for fourteen and a half years before beginning his long career with Bohlmann, Inc. from which he retired in 2002. Following his retirement from Bohlmann’s, Bob worked as a custodian at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School for four years until his health failed. In his leisure time Bob enjoyed, fishing, especially ice fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking and carpentry. He took great pride in building his own home and remodeling homes, having remodeled all four of his children’s homes. He found his greatest enjoyment in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will lovingly be remembered by his family as a loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Bob died Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2013, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 76 years, 2 months and 2 days. Including his parents, Alfred and Hildegaard Hinners, others preceding Bob in death include his son, Joseph Robert Hinners, January 12, 2003, and two brothers: Alfred Hinners, Jr. and Eugene Hinners. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Ione Hinners of Denison, Iowa; daughters: Theresa Schramm and husband Rick of Denison, Iowa, Tammy Loughran and friend Daryl of Omaha, Nebraska, and Tracey Reetz and husband Scott of Denison, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; brothers: Wilbur Hinners and wife Pat of Carroll, Iowa and Louie Hinners and wife Norma of Arcadia, Iowa; sister, Marilyn Jeschke and husband Burdell of Carroll, Iowa; sister-in-law Darlene Hinners of Carroll, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly serving as Celebrant. Others participating in the Liturgy included Servers: Mackenzie and Austin Freese; Lector: Lindy Bohlmann; Gift Bearers: Tammy and Emily Loughran; and Eucharistic Ministers: Mary Ann Verbik, Dorothy Leinen and Dan Pfannebecker. Music was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing “Amazing Grace”, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagle’s Wings” with Jean Cornelius accompanying. Honorary Pallbearers included John A. Shields, James Leinen, Orville Bohlmann and Larry Halbur. Serving as Pallbearers were Mike Muggenberg, Justin Hinners, Bennett Freese, Blaine Bohlmann, Paul Hinners and Todd Hinners. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the graveside rites all were invited to return to the St. Rose Parish Center for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild.
