Robert Daniel Hitt, son of Robert Thomas Hitt and Dora Mae Bode Hitt was born November 17, 1928 on a farm south of Adair, Iowa. He was the second child in a family of six children. He spent his early years at Lyman, Lewis and Massena, Iowa, graduating from the Massena High School with the Class of 1946. Following high school he furthered his education at the Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha.He began a career with Swift and Co., Omaha, Nebraska in 1947. During the Korean War Robert served in USAF where he met Rosemarie Wollny. They were married in the Base Chapel, Selfridge Field, Mt. Clemens, Michigan on May 17, 1952. After his discharge he resumed his career with Swift at Omaha, Nebraska, Guymon, Oklahoma and Des Moines, Iowa where he was plant manager. After retirement in 1979, Bob worked for Dubuque Pack in Denison and Marvin’s Provisions in Vail from which he retired in 1994. For many years following his retirement he was employed part time as a funeral assistant at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.Robert joined the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Omaha, Nebraska in 1948 where he served as Trustee, Elder and Sunday School Teacher as well as in Guymon, Des Moines and Denison. He was a member of UPC over 60 years currently attending Grace E Free Church in Denison and was a member of the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa.Robert and Rosemarie’s union was blessed with 3 lovely children: Susan Kay, Patricia Ann, and Robert Anthony (Bob). They were a close knit and loving family of which Robert was very proud.Some of his favorite things were attending and serving at church, reading, golfing, bowling, walking, gardening, card playing and watching sports on T.V.Robert died early Wednesday morning, January 27, 2016, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 87 years, 2 months and 10 days.Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dora Hitt.Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Rosemarie Hitt of Denison, Iowa; children: Susan (Larry) Cox of Irving, Texas, Patricia (Michael) Grande of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Robert (Kathy) Hitt of Borger, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters: Ileana Ellis of Centennial, Colorado and Mary Ellen Yarger of Massena, Iowa; brothers: Lee (Dorothy) Hitt of Lincoln, Nebraska, Charles (Karen) Hitt of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jacob (Virginia) Hitt of Greenfield, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ann (Leo) Hathaway of Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends.Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday January 30, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Brian Rihner officiating. Music for the service included two congregational hymns, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace” with Nancy Bliesman as accompanist. Pallbearers included: Brian Cox, Michael Grande, Gregory Grande, Mark Grande, Andy Hitt, Zachary Hitt, David Hitt and Dennis Hitt. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa. Following the services at the cemetery, all were invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship at Cronk’s in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , in Denison, was in charge where a visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016.
