Robert Alvin Jensen, son of Wilson Alvin and Elma (Rohrs) Jensen, was born on October 26, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was raised on the Rohrs family farm outside of Shelby, Iowa that was established in 1875 after their homesteaded wheat farm in Knox County, Nebraska was destroyed in three hours by the sand hill grasshoppers and the family returned to Iowa. Robert was baptized on February 10, 1952 and confirmed on March 13, 1966, both at the United Lutheran Church in Shelby.
Robert attended school in Shelby and graduated with the class of 1970. Throughout school he helped on the family farm but was also very active in school. He participated in band where he played the clarinet and was a part of Honor Band. He was also active in Student Council, he lettered in baseball, football and basketball and was Homecoming King his senior year. Robert excelled in the classroom where he was a member of National Honor Society and was awarded the Citizenship award during high school as well. After high school, he followed in his mother’s footsteps and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1977.
Robert returned to Shelby to practice veterinary medicine and continued to help on the family farm. Robert always enjoyed following and cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones whenever they were on television as well as watching anything on the History Channel. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and was very loyal to Chevrolet trucks and International Harvester farm machinery. He had a huge coin collection and was a regular at The Cornstalk Restaurant in Shelby.
Robert died on October 5, 2018 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska having attained the age of sixty-six years, eleven months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by cousins, other relatives and many friends.
