Although he was born in Charter Oak, he spent some time in Nebraska and in area of Schleswig Iowa. He attended Schleswig High School, but left in 1947, his Senior year, to enlist in the army. His boot camp was in South Carolina and he was stationed in Kansas City for the duration of his service. It was here that he finally earned his diploma. After serving his “hitch”, he returned home and worked several odd jobs; among these, on the road crew that paved Highway 59. In 1950 Bob married Mickie Reese in Papillion Nebraska. They moved to the farm that his parents owned outside of Schleswig and worked the land for five years. It was here that they had two children: Candy and Cyndy. The four of them moved to California in 1956. After several smaller jobs, he found himself working for Ford Aerospace until his retirement. It was in California that Robert and Mickie had two more children: Roberta and Bobby. Although he retired in 1986, he stayed active and became the local handyman. The neighborhood kept him especially occupied with small odd jobs and fixes. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was especially fond of cruising with his family. These final years were spent with his children and grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father Frances and Ed and his brothers Edward and Albert. He is survived by his wife Mickie, daughters Candace, Cynthia, and Roberta, son Robert A (Bobby). Bob is also survived by his sister Joy Fletcher, niece Julie and his six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was much loved and will be missed by all of us.
