Robert Leonard Schiltz
July 30, 1948 — August 25, 2011
Robert Leonard Schiltz, son of Anthony and Benita (Bissen) Schiltz, was born on July 30, 1948 in Defiance, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Peter�s Catholic Church in Defiance and after his family moved near Earling, he was confirmed at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from St. Joseph�s Catholic School in Earling.
After his schooling, Robert entered the United States Army on November 9, 1966. He served his country honorably until a medical discharge on May 31, 1968. On August 8, 1970, Robert was united in marriage to Linda Miller at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Five boys were born to this union: Scott, Steve, Danny, David and Brad. Bob and Linda farmed outside of Earling where they raised their boys. In 1992, Bob began renting out the farm and started to work at Jim�s Meat Market in Harlan, then for Panama Transfer before finishing his career at Conductix in Harlan.
Bob was a very hard working and dedicated family man. He enjoyed riding horses with his kids and was often known as the "Vet" of Earling often helping neighbors pulling calves or pigs anytime of the year. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards. After the death of his wife in 2007, Bob continued to make his home on the farm near Earling and was a longtime member of St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1741 of Earling.
On August 25, 2011, Bob was admitted to the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and passed away with his family by his side. He attained the age of sixty-three years and twenty-six days. In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his sons: Scott Schiltz and his wife Jill of Earling, Iowa; Steve Schiltz and his fianc� Kim Ekdahl; Danny Schiltz and his wife Dana; David Schiltz and his wife Shannon and Brad Schiltz all of Omaha; Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; his mother, Benita Schiltz of Earling; his brothers and sisters: Tony Schiltz and his wife Helen of Davenport, Iowa; Joann and her husband Tony Allegretti of San Jose, California; Gene Schiltz and his wife Marian of Des Moines, Iowa; Jim Schiltz and his wife Mel of Bellevue, Nebraska and Mary and her husband Delmer Powell of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Michael Berner concelebrating on Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Mary Wilwerding accompanied vocalist Aaron Schiltz. Serving as casket bearers were his sons Scott, Steve, Danny, David, and Brad. Interment was at St. Joseph�s Cemetery in Earling, Iowa.
