Robert "Bob" Anthony Schwery was born on August 14, 1940 to Lawrence and Agnes (Maiwald) Schwery on the family farm three miles west of Panama, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. Bob graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School.
On October 17, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to Marcella "Sally" Ann Dresen St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Four boys were born to this union: Douglas, Randy, Dale, and Bradley. The family lived on a farm five miles west of Panama where Bob began his farming career. He worked at the pork plant in Harlan as well as drove trucks for Clark Ready Mix, Panama Transfer, and Joe Bock Trucking.
After his retirement in 1998, Bob loved to keep busy in his hobby shop at the house. He could be found making three-wheel bikes and iron sculptures out of old farm machinery.
Bob and Sally died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 as the result of an automobile accident south of Harlan, Iowa. Bob had attained the age of seventy-one years, two months, and twelve days. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Agnes , and Bob's sister Monica Kenkel.
They are survived by their children: Doug Schwery and his wife Tresa of Panama, Iowa, Randy "Brick" Schwery and his wife Pam of Earling, Iowa, Dale Schwery of Panama, Iowa, and Bradley Schwery and his wife Melissa of Portsmouth, Iowa; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; Bob's brothers Donnie Schwery and his wife Roseanne of Des Moines, Iowa and Duane "Dewey" Schwery and his wife Kathy of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; sister Elaine and her husband Ralph Tremel of Panama; brother-in-law Leo Kenkel of Woodbine, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
Rev. John Dorton celebrated the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. Music was provided by Bob Mages, Jodie Wingert, and Tyler Gubbels. Honorary casket bearers were Laura Schwery, Samantha Cunningham, Georgina Schwery, Morgan Schwery, Brandon Schwery, Brian Earlywine, Christina Ratigan, Xander Cunningham, and Cade Cunningham. Serving as casket bearers were Jaime Schwery, Justin Schwery, Ryan Schwery, Calvin Schwery, Cody Schwery, West Cunningham, Ron Kenkel, Phil Kenkel, Curt Tremel, Sid Stolz, Roger Dresen, and Kevin Dresen. Interment was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Panama, Iowa.
