Roger Frank Andersen was born July 3, 1938 to Frank and Elna (Jensen) Andersen in Poplar, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Jacksonville Lutheran Church. He attended school at the Clay township #4 school house through sixth grade and then attended Elk Horn Kimballton where he graduated in 1956.
Following graduation Roger was employed putting up electrical lines in southwest Iowa, after a short time he returned to his true love of farming. Roger married his high school sweetheart Jackie Barker on February 8, 1958, making their home on a farm East of Rorbeck, Iowa and together had three sons, Rick, Brian and Tim.
Roger enjoyed raising cattle and passed his interest down to his three sons by supporting them in their endeavors in the Rorbeck Ramblers 4-H club showing cattle. Many fun trips were made to the Iowa State Fair.
Roger enjoyed traveling and he and the family traveled extensively in a pickup camper all over the United States. In later years he and Jackie traveled in a motorhome visiting all 50 states as well as driving through Mexico to Belize. Several trips were made outside the country from ocean cruises to river boats. Roger and Jackie were snowbirds for more than 40 years wintering in Brownsville, Texas where Roger enjoyed playing cards, activities by the pool, and socializing with friends. Roger enjoyed carpentry work and shared his talents with friends and family. He was among other community members who volunteered their time and talent on reassembling the Danish windmill when it came to town. In 1983 after "retiring" he and Jackie moved to town to the home he built and still reside in. Although retired he continued to be a part of the family farming operations.
In his free time Roger liked to fish, be it the Gulf of Mexico, charter fishing, or the local lake. He never turned down a Saturday night polka dance and tended his flowers with the green thumb that followed him from the farm. He enjoyed a round of golf and was known for his love of water skiing when the boys were young. He enjoyed his kids' sporting activities and continued this interest with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always ready with words of encouragement. Some of his favorite times were when family could all be together. He had a deep love for his family and is going to be greatly missed.
Roger passed away peacefully at his home in Elk Horn, Iowa surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 7, 2024 attaining the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 4 days.
