Roger Frederick Egan was born Feb 1, 1937 in New York City, New York, to James Joseph Egan and Ellen Tanner Egan. Roger left school at sixteen, working (and playing) in New York, Miami and Los Angeles before finding both a calling and his future wife, Beverly, as a computer operator and programmer at Montefiore Hospital in New York.
Roger married Beverly Irene Smith on January 12, 1965 at Christ Church in the Bronx. Their son, Todd, was born on December 4, 1965. The Egans moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1967 where Roger completed his education at the University of Nebraska.
He worked for Wells Fargo Alarm Systems following graduation and was promoted to Sales Manager with a transfer to San Jose, California in 1974. In 1980, Roger and his partners brought a failing alarm company back to profitability as VP of Operations. Roger sold his interest in SOLFAN (Sick Of Looking For Another Name) in 1984 and returned to computers as a tutor and instructor at Mission College and the Computer Learning Center.
He finished his career as a Senior Support Engineer with Siemens Business Systems where he made a second family for himself at work. He was a favorite with customers and colleagues through the end of his working years, ultimately volunteering for a layoff to save a job for a younger engineer.
Roger and Beverly spent summers visiting Bev’s family in Iowa, running movie nights at the Eventide Senior Center. Roger particularly loved summers (and mischief) with nieces, Rachel, Sarah and Erin (aka the adorables). He renewed and enjoyed close connections with friends and family from the Bronx wandering (virtually) through his New York stomping grounds and finding old friends through the internet.
Roger and Bev spent their retirement years with son Todd in Fremont, California. After Bev passed in 2016, Roger enjoyed time spent with Todd, daughter-in-law Lynnette (Lewis), brother Eugene, cousin Joan Rasanen and the adorables. He was lovingly cared for by Noly, Minda and Epi who received regular Mother’s Day flowers from their grateful charge.
Roger loved life. He loved to laugh. He enjoyed his time here more than most. Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
