Roger Frederick Hanson was born on October 28, 1945, to Arthur and Mildred (Morlok) Hanson. He was confirmed at St. Paul�s Lutheran Church in Irwin and remained a member there. Roger attended country school in Botna and graduated from Irwin High School. He spent one year at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.
On November 16, 1965, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until January 20, 1969 when he was honorably discharged from the military. He returned to Shelby County and worked at Harlan Manufacturing for seventeen years. In 1987, he took his welding skills to DEBA Manufacturing in Denison, Iowa. From there he took a job at Skyjack in Atlantic, Iowa, before returning to the Harlan area and working for Variety Distributors.
Roger was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed going to swap meets and looking for antique motorcycles.
Roger died unexpectedly on January 9, 2008, having attained the age of sixty-two years, two months, and twelve days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lynn Hanson.
He is survived by his three nieces: Trisha German of Colfax, Iowa, Rhonda Shanon of Mingo, Iowa, and Timbra Thies of Denison, Iowa; his aunt Lela Hanson of Harlan, Iowa; great-nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
A graveside service was held on Friday, January 11, 2008, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, Iowa. Pastor Ron Rasmussen led the 10:00 AM service
